Book Of Shadows

Today, as part of my year and a day study, I am reflecting on The Book of Shadows.  Any one that has every watched Charmed or Grimm, has heard of something known as The Book Of Shadows. While I normally do not like to compare those actually walking a Wiccan path, with a television program, I have to admit, these two shows, do a just representation of this magickal book.

The Book of Shadows, is basically a manual on how to live a Pagan lifestyle.  A bible if you will.   However, unlike a bible, no two Book of Shadows are the same, as they are created by those using it.  Each coven or solitary practitioner, has their own Book of Shadows (often abbreviated BOS)  which will contain religious texts and instructions for rituals, notes on the phases of the moon, ingredients for healing salves, diagrams for setting up an altar, and basically anything the creator may find useful, on their path.

Originally, the Book of Shadows was hand written, and passed down through generation.  However, the modern witch finds technology just as useful as anyone else, and their BOS may contain printed out information or may be completely online.

I personally do not have a Book Of Shadows, although I would very much like one.  In fact, years ago I purchased a large three ring binder, meant for scrapbooking pages, for the purpose of creating a Book of Shadows.  It was my intention to construct a book, that would allow my creative side to flourish. I guess I find the simplicity of the cloud, a little more me, at the moment.
